Book The Duke and the Siren (The Unwanted Dukes Book 3) Review :

I couldn't find anything redeemable about the so called hero. And I was pretty mad at her for even considering taking him back! I seriously wished he had died. He hurt her so bad and honestly I feel he will get that restless feeling again and leave her. I am sorry I read this. I do want to say the author is talented and can write well but I just hated the plot. He was a manho for four years and she was going to see his ex-lovers all over the place. I can't believe she fell for him again. And I never believed he loved her. Even with the epilogue. Not safe and definitely not a book I should have read. I kept hoping he really hadn't done everything he had done but unfortunately he did and she actually saw him having 'fun' with the opera singer. How disgusting is that. Just can't read stuff like this. I always think there's going to be a twist where unicorns and rainbows appear but instead I get ugly flying monkeys! Good job to the author and I am sure this book is going to be popular so just ignore my review. It's just my personal opinion.
Warning: this review has spoilers.Hero and heroine were a young married couple when she walked in on him having sex with another woman. She left. He has had no contact with her for four years (well, he thought about it once and chickened out) while continuing to have sex with married and unmarried women, drink, party, etc. Then he manages to get himself severely injured racing around in his carriage, which he is wont to do, and she is bound by duty to risk her safety and put her life on hold for months to nurse him back to health. In order for this H to work for me, he needed to show that he had truly matured and changed; taking full responsibility for what he did right off the bat would have helped. At the very least, he should have been thankful to h for helping him and sincerely apologetic. But he's a narcissist who's full of excuses: he had no idea that he hurt her (seriously??), she was the one who abandoned their marriage, theirs was never a love match, married men of the ton always fool around, ad nauseum. There was nothing to indicate that h didn't try to make the marriage work during their time together, she was just naive, while H has earned himself quite a reputation, which makes her an object of humiliation every time she's at social events. (And no, the fact that some of his exploits have been exaggerated doesn't redeem him.)Even worse, h's self-image is so low she holds herself partly responsible for his unfaithfulness, because she didn't tell him from the beginning that she wanted him to be faithful (!). When H does apologize, mostly in order to keep having sex with her, she tells him he doesn't need to say he's sorry, convincing herself that his affairs are one big "misunderstanding." She even decides that she should try to get pregnant so she has something to remember him by once he recovers and rides off. And he basically continues to use her right up until he recovers, then tells her he can't return her love, she was just a distraction all along. Poor boy, he can't be expected to know what love is. (Ugh!)When he finally declares his love, it has no sincerity. One of the weakest HEA's I've read.I had liked this writer, but thought the previous book in this series had a repressive undertone, and I dislike this H so much I won't continue this series. Romance writers really need to start at least considering the teens who read these books, and desist from creating h's who are doormats with such low self-esteem they'll put up with anything from a guy. Really a poor message here.NOTE: For those who think I'm exaggerating, this is not a case where the H slipped up once and has regretted his mistake ever since. He continued to have affairs for four years after his young wife left him, never once with a thought of curtailing his behavior, until he notices that he feels a bit "restless." By the ton's standards at that time, the H's behavior would have been beyond the pale. Even if it had been a marriage of convenience, the idea was for the wife to at least be able to sire an heir before the husband started his philandering. Otherwise he was risking another male in his family inheriting. (He'd also risk leaving behind a series of illegitimate children, of course, which would be an additional complication). Also, the social code called for discretion. Men did not typically have relations with mistresses in their own homes, in their own beds, where their wives and servants were keenly aware of what was going on. That would have been the height of disrespect.Language is PG-rated. I skimmed over the numerous sex scenes because I felt like the h was debasing herself and I couldn't stand the H.
